CCF USGS Handbook Mailing

In an effort to increase the awareness of personal and community earthquake preparedness responsibilities, Coastside Community First (CCF) mailed the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) handbook “Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country” to all local coastside residents on September 11, 2006. That date reminds us that we live in an increasingly dangerous world, and that there are many diverse threats to our safety and way of life. We must remain vigilant and prepared.

Being prepared for a major natural disaster will not only help us to face that eventuality, but will also better prepare us both physically and psychologically to meet other challenges that may be forced upon us.

The cover letter for the mailing was as follows:

ARE YOU READY FOR THE NEXT BIG ONE?

The attached USGS Handbook, Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country, is the best publication available to provide you with life saving guidance both in preparation for and response to a major earthquake. The online version can be found at: http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/2005/15/.

EL USGS (Servicio geologia de los Estados Unidos) publicara una version de esta guia en Espanol en Octubre 2006. Busquelo!

Becoming familiar with the contents of this Handbook is important for the safety of you and your family. Being prepared for an earthquake means you are less likely to become a casualty; you will be a part of the resolution to the problem rather than a part of it. When an earthquake strikes, you will have the knowledge and confidence that you and your family are prepared, whether you are at home or away. Remember, your personal and family preparedness is paramount to your survival in a disaster.

Please save this publication for future use. You might want to keep it in the First Aid and Survival Guide, Section B, of your phone book.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training will also be available on the coastside soon. Becoming part of the CERT program will enable you to provide assistance to your neighborhood and community during an earthquake or other emergency. More information about CERT and other local disaster preparedness issues is available at: www.coastsidecommunityfirst.com. Also visit our web site for other items of interest to our coastside community.

You are the essential ingredient for both family and community disaster preparedness.
